Salon Tii Gavo’s Latest Charity
Event Another Hit

Last fall, Salon tii Gavo hosted an outreach event for the women of Rita & Catherine’s Transitional House. This culminated a month-long drive to gain personal care supplies from the staff, customers and general public to benefit this worthy organization.

These houses provide quality transitional housing services to homeless, chemically addicted women while supporting their recovery and nurturing their potential. The salon’s toiletries drive to donate to the women was a big success as photos of their "haul" show. Salon tii Gavo wishes to thank their guests for their incredible generosity! They in turn gave back to the community by offering free eyebrow waxing to whomever donated a toiletry.

Salon Tii Gavo also teamed up with the Women Encouraging Hope Guild. On October 3rd they invited all of the women to the salon for a day of beauty, doing haircuts, styles, waxing, manicures and pedicures. A client who heard what they were doing volunteered herself for the day as well, which was a truly a blessing.

Some of the words spoken by the women receiving pampering were "The salon ladies were so nice, so easy to talk with. It was like we were on an even playing field," "I was so nervous going in but they made me feel like I was with friends," "I love, love, love my nails," "I’ve never had a pedicure," and "They treated me like a lady."

Fairwood business owner Jolene Casey has owned and operated Salon Tii Gavo in the Fairwood area for nearly a decade. The salon first opened in Fairwood Plaza in the space now occupied by The Tutoring Club, and more recently moved to its current Fairwood Shopping Center in a larger facility from which to offer more services to the Fairwood community clientele.

The full service salon and spa also includes men by having a barber shop located inside the salon. Jolene’s nephew, Shaun the Barber. Shaun offers a relaxing bit of pampering for men. Shaun’s shop features the best of both worlds - old-fashioned barbering and straight-razor shave services and great conversation in a restored 1930s barber chair - with a flat-screen plasma TV to watch the latest sporting events while enjoying a relaxing beverage.

There is also a wig room for women experiencing hair loss due to medical conditions. Her caring staff is there to help select and style the wigs to the customer’s preference in the salon’s tranquil setting

The salon has hosted countless charity events and drives over the years, most recently a benefit for the American Cancer Society in honor of one staff member’s family member. The salon "goes pink" annually for Breast Cancer Awareness month, and features a fun array of products including "Boob Lube" breast-check body wash soap. Last fall featured appropriately colored Wazoo and U-Dub cocoas.

This year Jolene found a source for pink cocoa mix continues to be a big hit. Hurry on down, you may be able to pickup some of your own from the rapidly dwindling supply! And it really does make tasty pink drink as the editor’s five-year-old niece & cocoa connoisseur can attest! Jolene’s annual customer and community appreciation events are always well attended and fun for all involved.

Almost anytime they hear of a need, Jolene and her ever-ready staff are ready to launch into action to help however they can. It’s caring, sharing people and businesses like this which makes the Fairwood area so very, very special.
