New Aid Car Dedicated

On January 29, King County Fire District 40 and Renton Fire and Emergency Services hosted a dedication ceremony at Fire Station 17 for our area’s newest aid car. The dedication ceremony included a long-time tradition of the fire service, often referred to as a "housing ceremony."

This ceremony began with the firefighters washing down the tires of the aid car. In the early days, washing wheels kept the wooden spokes from drying out after a fire.

The horse-drawn wagon was cleaned out before returning it to the fire station. The final part of the traditional ceremony is to have the firefighters physically push the new aid unit into the firehouse, a fire service tradition that dates back to the 19th century.

This new aid car will enable Fire District 40 to respond quickly to medical and other emergencies, and provide the Fairwood area with the continued excellent service we have received over the years. Congratulations to Chief Mark Peterson and our Fairwood firefighting team!
